Pumpkins and Polaroids: Retrospective

By Sanay Sood | December 3rd, 2021

Near the end of October, the Student Activity Council held their first fully in-person event in over a year, and it was a wild success. Pumpkins and Polaroids was hosted on Friday the 29th of October, and over 30 teams participated. This event is a Woodlands tradition during the Halloween season, and being able to run it after such a hectic year was a highlight of Halloween for many students.

“This year, Pumpkins and Polaroids went really well. There was a lot of school spirit with everyone dressing up, and everyone was so into the carving! A lot of people had really cool designs that they were already planning for, like from Pinterest boards, and people were even bringing extra materials like stickers!” says Angela Wu, treasurer of the Student Activity Council (SAC).

According to Angela, this year, Pumpkins and Polaroids had the highest turnout since they’ve started running the event. Many people who’ve spoken about their experience have only had high praise. The school community enjoyed the music, the fun environment, and many Grade Nine’s, in particular, found the event to be an exciting introduction to The Woodlands.

This year, three Grade 11 students, Aisha Jelali, Pahul Johar, and Siya Sood, won the contest with their amazing Cinderella pumpkin. There were many different designs, each of which was just as creative as the last. There were many video game-themed designs, traditional designs, a lot of funny and interesting pumpkin carvings, quite a few giant holes, one Sun Baby, and even a Totoro!

Overall, the event was very successful, and particularly impressive considering how quickly the council prepared the event, especially given that Upper Council results were only announced just a few days earlier. Personally, this was my first event at The Woodlands, and it was a great experience. I look forward to seeing the success of SAC events in the future! Pumpkins and Polaroids was amazing!
