Blursed: A Prospective Look

By Pahul Kaur | March 3rd, 2022

Grade 10 students at the Woodlands should look out for Art Club and Student Activity Council (SAC)’s latest event — Blursed — on Monday, March 7th at 11 AM in Room 129.

‘Blursed’ is a clever portmanteau; a combination of ‘blessed’ and ‘cursed’. It’s Reddit-speak for a picture that brings you joy and comfort, but also creeps you out or confuses you.

The event is essentially rebranding surrealism as ‘blursed art’. It is a fun way for people to hang out in a low-pressure environment where a lot of skill isn’t needed, says Arya Vishnu, the Grade 10 SAC representative.

Blursed will be structured as a friendly competition. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own meme-y choice of art using magazines, pencil crayons, and markers. At the end, all of the art will be submitted through a Google Form, giving students a chance to vote for their favorite creations.

Arya mentions that this event is one of the various mini-events outlined in her Grade 10 Representative campaign where students have an opportunity to attend specific events catered to niche interests with a smaller audience. Instead of one big grade-wide event, she plans to organize multiple small-scale activities throughout the year. Another mini-event Grade 10 students can look forward to soon is a Clash Royale tournament.

While it is targeted towards Grade 10’s, Blursed is open to all students at the Woodlands. Art Club encourages participants to bring magazines, and students who do so will be rewarded with candy.

Blursed sounds like a noteworthy event, one that is particularly exciting for the large artistic community at The Woodlands. I look forward to participating in this exciting collaboration between SAC and Art Club on Monday!
